2016 Tempranillo

West Cape Howe WinesVintage Description: The fresh, spicy, ‘raspberry’ fruit flavours sit well with the dusty more savoury fruit characters. This wine is not overly fruity and has the chalky, drying tannins that are typical of Tempranillo. With its good structure and great length of flavour it can be matched with many foods or cellared for the short term for further complexity.
Winemaking Information:As with previous years, we have combined the strengths of this variety grown in two different regions in our 2016 Tempranillo. The 72% from Frankland River provides the depth of fruit flavour and the balance from the Perth Hills (28%) gives the savoury, ‘rustic’ characters that Tempranillo is renowned for. Maturation for ~10 months in once & twice used barriques adds complexity without too much oak flavour to override the fruit.
Fruit Source:Perth Hills and Frankland River
Colour:Good crimson red with a hint of purple.
Aroma:Has delicate fruit aromas with smoky, ripe tamarillo fruit characters.
Palate:Medium bodied with dusty, dark, tamarillo fruit flavours. The spicy, savoury fruit flavours are well balanced by the drying tannins from the fruit astringency and from oak maturation. Has good palate length and will improve with further bottle age. Great served with a slow braised meat dish.
